The Nimchych Pass
The Nimchych Pass is one of the best-known mountain passes in Bukovyna. The road between Vyzhnytsia and Putyla climbs here onto a ridge, opening up broad views over the Bukovynian Carpathians.

Why it's worth visiting Nimchych
The pass is prized for its panoramas: forested ridges spread out in every direction, and on a clear day distant peaks can be seen. Even the winding road itself is part of the experience: every bend reveals a new view over the valleys.
It's a good place for a first introduction to the mountains of Bukovyna, since no long hike is needed to see the mountain scenery here.
What to see
The pass has viewpoints that are best for photographing the ridges. In the morning the valleys are often filled with mist, and the mountains emerge from it like islands. In the evening the slopes are lit with warm light, and the sky above the ridges becomes especially vivid.
From the pass you can set off along forest trails, but for longer routes choose your track in advance and gauge your strength.
How to prepare for the trip
The road is mountainous, with bends and climbs, so drive carefully, especially in fog, rain or ice. It's cooler and windier up there than in the valley — bring a warm layer even in summer.
Open the route in Google Maps in advance and download the map offline: mobile signal can be unreliable on the ridge.
What to combine the pass with
Nimchych combines well with the Smuharski Waterfalls or mountain routes such as Kinashka. A day like this lets you see both the panoramas and the forest corners of Bukovyna, before returning in the evening to the comfort of Stizhok in Berehomet.
