The Ivan Mykolaichuk Estate Museum
The Ivan Mykolaichuk estate museum in the village of Chortoriia is a memorial to a leading Ukrainian actor, director and screenwriter, born in Bukovyna. It preserves the atmosphere of the home where he grew up.

Who Ivan Mykolaichuk was
Ivan Mykolaichuk (1941–1987) was one of the leading figures of Ukrainian cinema. He won wide acclaim for the role of Ivan in Sergei Parajanov's film 'Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors'. He later became a director too, notably of the film 'Babylon XX', and remains a lasting symbol of Ukrainian poetic cinema.
Mykolaichuk was born in Chortoriia and kept a lifelong connection with his native Bukovyna, whose songs, customs and language come through in his films.
What to see at the museum
The estate is a wooden house with a memorial plaque and a yard that convey the everyday life of a Bukovynian village. The exhibition includes belongings, photographs and materials connected with the artist's life and work. A visit helps you better understand the world that shaped the imagery of his films.
How to plan a visit
The museum's opening hours and visiting conditions can change, so check with the museum before your trip. Open the route in Google Maps — the link is below.
For a richer visit, watch 'Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors' or another film featuring Mykolaichuk before you go. Behave respectfully on site — this is a place of remembrance.
What to combine it with
The estate museum pairs well with a cultural route through Bukovyna alongside Nazarii Yaremchuk's Smerekova Khata in Vyzhnytsia. A day like this gives a sense of the region's living culture, and in the evening you can enjoy Bukovynian dishes at the Stizhok restaurant.
